William (Bill) Boardman

Woodstock, Georgia – Class of 2019 Major: Government

Bill Boardman has long been fascinated by the workings of our nation’s government. An aspiring lawyer, Bill is pursuing the Public Policy and Law track at the Academy, which has enabled him to pursue his passion through a variety of law courses.

On real-world learning

“My whole life I have enjoyed problem solving and building things. These long-held interests made choosing Civil Engineering as my major an easy choice.”

On a committed faculty

“All of the faculty are exceedingly knowledgeable. But I remember one time asking a somewhat off-topic question, and the professor told me he didn’t know, but would get back to me. Less than 20 minutes after class, I had an email with the answer to my question, along with sources if I wanted to investigate further. The faculty are truly committed to the students.”

On the major being applied

“In my National Security Policy class, we attended a conference at Yale discussing the national security implications of climate change. We were able to interact with experts in the field and discuss the issues with Yale students and others. It was just one of many opportunities we have to experience the Government major applied in the world.”

On considering the Government major

“If you like reading a myriad of topics about our government and the challenges it faces, analyzing them in class, and formulating and writing your own arguments, the Government major is certainly for you.”
