Taylor Rowles

Hello everyone!

I am Taylor Rowles and I love all the unique opportunities that the Academy has to offer! I come from a small suburb outside of Boston (Go Pats!), but I have lived all over the country growing up. I am the first Coast Guardsman in my family and I was inspired to join at a young age when I observed Coast Guard helicopters and small boats while vacationing on Cape Cod. As a boating instructor and life guard, I have always had a love for the water and the Academy has allowed me to continue all my passions, while pursuing a college education.

At the Academy, I am a sprinter for the women’s track and field team and I am on the Model United Nations team that travels all around the world for competitions. Being involved in athletics and clubs has allowed me to balance and prioritize my academic and military calendars and make friends that have similar interests.

This past summer I was underway with the USCG Midgett out of Seattle, Washington and conducted fish boardings and helicopter operations in the Bering Sea and along the Aleutian Islands. Not only was this the first time I left New England since elementary school, but I got to see the beautiful mountains and volcanoes and even the whale migration. I got a glimpse of the day-to-day life of what is to come after my commission. During this summer, I worked on qualifications for my cutter and got pepper sprayed in hopes of possibly being a boarding officer one day. If you have any questions about USCGA feel free to email me at [email protected].
