RISE
Home / Admissions / Rise

The Academy is pleased to host the Respect & Inclusion Summer Experience (RISE), for newly reporting cadets. RISE is a fun, two-day family (incoming swab + 2 guests) orientation and social gathering for incoming cadets. Totally optional, RISE will help you make the transition to life as a new cadet, get to know classmates and New London better, and offer practical tips to your parents. This year’s RISE program will run from June 28-29 at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

Please consider attending if you:

  • Are the first in your family to attend college
  • Have not visited the Academy before
  • Are a citizen of another country, or have lived most of your life outside the U.S.
  • Belong to a group historically underrepresented at the Academy
  • Have concerns about the transition and prefer a gradual introduction

In addition, RISE also provides the opportunity to socialize with future classmates and their families. The benefits of attending RISE include:

  • Developing your support network
  • Team-building exercises to get to know each other better
  • Meeting other parents and learning about the benefits of membership in the Parents Association
  • Learning to get around the campus and New London

Schedule

Prospective cadets and their family members will break into separate groups at times during the program. Check back for updates on this year’s schedule and registration.

Lodging and Transportation

Event lodging has been arranged at a local hotel which is located near the Academy. The Academy will cover the expense of one room (king bed and a pull out couch or 2 double beds) for each out-of-town family, from check in on June 23 until check out on June 26, on a first come, first served basis. For details regarding the hotel please contact Mrs. Christy Rose at Christine.A.Rose@uscga.edu.

Transportation will be provided from the hotel to the Academy on Friday, 24 June and Saturday 25 June.

To extend your stay in the same hotel for the night before you report in, please have your cadet use his or her credit card, and keep the receipt to file with a travel claim later
