Maple Valley, WA - Class of 2020 Major: Government
Pat Wheeler

Hey, everyone.

Hey there! My name is Pat Wheeler; I am a 3/c cadet here at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. I’m originally from Maple Valley, Washington (about 45 minutes outside of Seattle). Before the Academy, I attended Marion Military Institute in Marion, Alabama as a Coast Guard Academy Scholar (also known as a “prepster”). At MMI, I was the co-captain of the MMI Scuba Tigers, an outstanding military dive club through which I received my NITROX certification as well as my spearfishing license. My time at prep school definitely better prepared me for the Academy, immersing me in a military schooling environment and allowing me to better adjust to a course load similar to that of all U.S. service academies.

For sports, I do Combat Arms (the Academy's three-gun tactical shooting team), Sandhurst (the Academy's military skills competition team), and Crossfit. I found one of the best things you can do here at the Academy to manage your stress levels is to stay active! Regardless of if you are on a varsity team or not, it’s important to take at least a couple hours a day to be involved in some form of athletics that you enjoy. In addition to the Cadet Blog Club, I am also a part of the leadership for Men's Ministry in the Officers’ Christian Fellowship (OCF) chapter on base. I also happen to be involved with the Coast Guard Academy's Boy Scouts of America Club where we become involved with local scouting troops and assist with their camping events and merit badge clinics. I’m always eager to answer questions and discuss my time in prep school, my experiences so far at the Academy, or the Coast Guard in general. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me, my email is [email protected].
