Project Lead the Way

Project Lead The Way (PLTW) is the leading provider of rigorous, relevant and innovative Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education curricular programs in middle schools and high schools across the U.S. Through an engaging, hands-on curriculum, PLTW encourages the development of problem-solving skills, critical thinking, creative and innovative reasoning, and a love of learning. PLTW sparks the ingenuity, creativity and innovation that are within all of our students. Students are exposed to STEM careers through professionals from local industries who supplement the curriculum through mentorships and workplace experiences. PLTW offers courses in both Engineering and Biomedical Sciences.

U.S. Coast Guard Academy

Because the Coast Guard Academy prepares most of the STEM educated officers serving in Coast Guard, we have a special interest in enrolling students with proven aptitude in the sciences and engineering. Graduates serve for a minimum of five years as a commissioned officers though most choose to stay on active duty for much longer.

PLTW participants can expect their participation to factor into selection for the Academy Introduction Mission (AIM), as well as their application for admission. AIM is a selective summer program for rising high school students. Application is due by April 1st during your junior year of high school.

Academy graduates with STEM degrees typically attend graduate school in their discipline, or a related one, at Coast Guard expense.

STEM Majors:

PLTW students, teachers, and advisors are encouraged to schedule a campus visit to explore the many opportunities available to cadets and graduates.

Educators are encouraged to stay up to date by attending an all expense paid two day visit to the Coast Guard Academy, known as the Educator and Influencer Summit. Please visit Educators to learn more.
