Cadet honored at National Latina Style AwardsNEW LONDON, Conn. – "Congratulations to First Class Cadet Christina Gonzales who was recognized at the 16th Annual National Latina Style Awards luncheon on Thursday, September 5, in Arlington, Virginia. She was honored for her outstanding contributions, exemplary service, and strong advocacy for the LatinX community, bringing great credit upon herself, the Coast Guard Academy, the Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security. A key leader of the cadet LatinX affinity group, Compañeros, as well as the Women's Leadership Council, her strong dedication to mentoring, combined with her stellar academic, military, and athletic record made her an ideal selectee for this esteemed award. She has also distinguished herself as a certified member of Cadets Against Sexual Assault (CASA), she volunteers with the Sea Cadets Corps every time she goes home to California, and she strives to dedicate 20 hours of volunteer work every semester here in the local New London community." - RADM William Kelly, Superintendent, U.
