Mid-Semester Capstone Presentations
March 2018
The Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture senior cadets presented their
prototypes, followed a week later with a briefing, for their Capstone projects.
The Capstone is the culmination of their work as engineering undergraduates and
a chance for those students to showcase what they have learned in a real-world application.
This year’s Naval Architecture projects include both CG and commercial icebreaker
designs, while this year’s Mechanical Engineering projects range from small, un-crewed
autonomous airborne systems (sUAS) to self-balancing robotic assistants to tabletop
demonstrators for evaluation source and type of vibrations in a ship’s propulsion
shaft.
