Operations Research and Computer Analysis

All students majoring in ORCA complete a project-oriented capstone course during the spring semester of their 1st class (senior) year. It is an opportunity for the students to put into practice what they have learned in the classroom during their major study.

Students work as part of a team on projects submitted by various Coast Guard units. The students work closely with their project sponsors and capstone advisors to carefully define the operational problem and use appropriate statistical, operations research and computer techniques to offer a mathematically supported solution.

Through the years, student capstone projects have greatly benefited the Coast Guard as a whole, providing viable solutions to problems encountered across the fleet.
