NEW LONDON, Conn. -- It was the fastest time ever recorded in the history of the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and
Field Championship. And that record-breaking victory belonged to Coast Guard Academy cadet, Third Class (3/c) Cadet Kaitlyn Mooney.
Her first national championship for this 5,000-meter race was not a sprint right out of the gate. Third Class Cadet Mooney took the lead about two-thirds way into the race on March 8 at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. She crossed the finish line
at an astounding 16 minutes, 23.12 seconds, the fastest time ever recorded in Division III.
Third Class Cadet Mooney is a Management major at the Coast Guard Academy. To learn more about CGA Athletics, visit CGA Sports.
