Mark Austria

My name is Mark Anthony R. Austria. I am an aspiring cadet who wants to be a mechanical engineer. Coming from a Filipino family, I was born in Pangasinan, Philippines, but I currently live in Dededo, Guam and attend St. Paul Christian School. On a day-to-day basis, I study for my SATs. In the morning, I go for a run and practice for my physical fitness exam. In the afternoon, I attend a CrossFit session. I have played high school volleyball, and I’m planning to try out new sports during my senior year. When I have free time, I tutor my little brother or help around the house. I also volunteer at the Red Cross and I’m planning to volunteer for the USO. I love helping my community.

The Coast Guard Academy has been on my mind for quite some time now. I chose the AIM program because I’ve heard that it will push you to your limits and will help you with the application process. I’ve always wanted to attend the AIM program. I wasn’t sure if I was going to get in, but I pushed through and never gave up. Fortunately, I was given a chance to experience this outstanding program at this prestigious school. I am very honored to be able to attend this program. I expect to improve mentally, physically and academically. I often talk to my family, friends and teachers about the Coast Guard Academy. My parents fully support my decision to attend the AIM program. We are honored as a family to be able to support and experience what the Coast Guard Academy has to offer. I am proud to represent my family, my school, my culture and the island of Guam. Go Bears!
