LTJG Laura Garofalo

LTJG Laura GarofaloMy name is Laura Garofalo, I am a lieutenant junior grade and a Diversity Officer for the Coast Guard Academy. Thank you for your interest in learning more about the many opportunities to serve as a future leader in the Coast Guard.

I am from Wisconsin and enlisted in the Coast Guard in 2012 as a reservist. In January 2013, I graduated from Direct Entry Petty Officer Training (DEPOT) at TRACEN CAPEMAY and went straight to Boatswains Mate "A" School at TRACEN YORKTOWN. During “A” School, I spent a week aboard the CGC Eagle and several weeks training on response boats. My first assignment was to Station Sheboygan as a contingency coxswain on the 25' and 45' response boats. In 2017, I earned my officer commission through Reserve Officer Candidate Indoctrination (ROCI) and reported to Sector San Diego in the Incident Management Division.

I hold a B.S. in Management and a Master's in Business Administration from Cardinal Stritch University. I have a great deal of experience working with high school students as a former English Language Learner teacher and outreach coordinator. I also volunteer as the Commanding Officer for a Sea Cadet unit located in Wisconsin. My husband and I are both Coast Guard officers. We have four children, ages 11 to 23. Our eldest serves as a reservist in the U.S. Army, and he and his wife blessed our family with a new granddaughter in spring 2020.
