Alpha Lambda Delta
Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD) is a national honor society that recognizes high achievement in scholastics during the freshman (4th Class) year. To be eligible for membership, a cadet must earn a 3.5 term GPA during one of the two semesters their first year. The purpose of this organization is to encourage high academic achievement though ALD also encourages its members to reach out to aid others in their learning. Every year, the Coast Guard Academy inducts about 50 to 60 new members into ALD. In addition, two upper-class members are chosen each year to represent USCGA at the National ALD conference which includes over 400 colleges and universities nationwide.
Beta Gamma Sigma
The purpose of the organization is to recognize excellence in academic achievement by undergraduate and graduate students in the fields of political science, government, international and public affairs; to stimulate scholarship and interest in political science; to promote worthwhile curricular and extracurricular activities related to political science; to promote civil dialog; and to engage in any other activities that further these purposes.
Cadets enrolled at The United States Coast Guard Academy are eligible for membership if they meet the following requirements:
- Completion of at least 15 credits of work in political science including at least three upper-division courses;
- An average grade of B in all courses in political science;
- Maintenance of general scholarship sufficient to place the student in the top one-third of his or her class; and
- Recognition by faculty consensus of possessing leadership and professional skills appropriate to PSA expectations.
