Hampton Roads, VA - Class of 2020 Major: Management
Darden Purrington

My name is Darden Purrington and I am a Class of 2020 Management major from Hampton Roads, Virginia. I am the annoyingly curious product of two obstinate parents. When I was three I was blessed with a brother, Parker, who is my partner in crime, and later with a dog, Bodie, who is just as stupidly stubborn as the rest of us. I attended Norfolk Collegiate School, where my mother teaches Chemistry/AP Chemistry, for 12 years before trading in being an Oak (yes, the tree - lame, I know) for being a Bear.

Here at the CGA, I take electrical engineering courses for kicks and giggles, play guitar, and am working on teaching myself American Sign Language. In my spare time, I am an avid sailor and an EMT for Mystic River Ambulance Association.

Life is one big opportunity and being at the Coast Guard Academy is no different. Some days it’s hard, some nights there’s not much sleep, and most weeks are packed, but there’s always a way to make this place yours, it just takes some work and dedication.

If you’re reading this because you want to be a cadet some day, please send me an email at [email protected]. I will gladly answer any questions and tell you all about how great this place is!
