ABOUT COURTNEY

My name is Courtney Gilliam and I was born and raised in Georgia, and live in a small town called Tyrone. I am the youngest in my family and have an older brother and sister. I ran cross country and track for seven years, but coming to the Academy I wanted to try something new so I tried rugby and absolutely loved it. I suffered a major knee injury 3/c year though so I moved on to spin club, CrossFit, and running on my own. I love watching movies and writing and hanging out with my friends. I am very involved at the Academy in a few of the clubs including Mock Trial and the Genesis Council. I am Co-President of the Women's Accountability Group, a qualified Cadet Against Sexual Assault member, I am a cadet peer supporter, in the Women's Leadership Council, and the President of the Blog Club. I was a part of the Coast Guard’s Scholars Program, having gone to prep school the year before coming to the Academy, which was an incredible experience. It gave me the tools I needed to succeed and lasting friendships that have only gotten stronger over the year, and I have now met even more amazing people. In high school, I was very apprehensive about applying and coming to the Academy – I had a lot of worries and doubts – but it has been such a rewarding journey so far with so much more to come and I am so glad that I seized this opportunity and cannot wait to help others. Over the last four years, I have seen the world with my best friends, had an internship on Capitol Hill, grown as a person and a leader, and am now preparing for opportunities I could have never imagined for myself before coming to the Academy. If I can help answer any questions, contact me at [email protected].
