A Crazy Start to the School Year

Hello! This is my first blog and I would like to give you a little background of myself and why I joined the Coast Guard Academy. I applied to the Academy because my sister attended the Academy while I was working on my applications to college. I was unsure, but after attending the AIM program, I just knew that this was the place for me. After I applied, I received an appointment for the prep school program that the Academy offers. I went to Marion Military Institute for a year and enjoyed my time as it was a learning experience all around including: learning about the other service academies, being far from home, and military expectations like proper uniform, rooms, and parades. The Academy maintains rigorous standards for academics and although they are still challenging, I am so happy I attended year of prep school; I believe it has given me a good foundation for my academics.

So far I am enjoying my time at school. Most of the time I am stressed out, but I've already found better ways to manage my time by just getting advice and learning from upper class as well as my shipmates. I think it’s key to laugh every day and have a positive view on whatever situation I am in. With that mindset it really makes me appreciate every day and just take it one day at a time. I look forward to building upon my leadership, character and academics. I have already grown so much as an individual and am eager to learn the following months.
