Clermont, Florida - Class of 2019 Major: Mechanical Engineering
Anita Jada Green

Anita Green has wanted to major in Mechanical Engineering since tenth grade, after an introduction to engineering and robotics in high school. Bringing a keen interest in the design aspect of engineering, Anita was excited to further the pursuit of her passion at the Academy.

On the academic rigor

"Classes within the major are academically challenging. Dynamics, in particular, is a class that really makes one think. By the end of the course the student is able to recognize the components of a problem and develop a series of methods that will lead to the solution."

On the support of faculty

"Faculty are very welcoming and are genuinely interested in their students' success. They are willing to set aside time to work with cadets inside and outside the classroom. As a result of the support I've received, my understanding of the material and my performance have greatly increased."

On hands-on learning

"The Mechanical Engineering major involves all kinds of real-world learning. These engaging hands-on projects have given me a clear idea of what mechanical engineering and design really look like."

On life after the Academy

"I expect my major to open a lot of doors once I enter the Coast Guard fleet. As far as potential careers outside the Coast Guard, the degree should provide a wide range of opportunities, as mechanical engineers are in demand across many fields."
