Enrolling in the Coast Guard Academy

Congratulations on accepting your appointment and welcome to the Corps of Cadets!

These pages contain the information you need to prepare to report to the Coast Guard Academy on Day One. Our goal is to help you and your parents make a smooth transition to college and military life.

Visiting your intended college before you enroll is important. It is even more important when you plan to attend a military academy. Please check your Bears Den portal to register for programs listed below. Need-based financial assistance may be available to offset travel expenses.

  • Academy Experience Program (AEP): If you have not already done so, please sign up to attend an AEP session, which is an overnight exclusively for admitted students.
  • Respect and Inclusion Summer Experience (RISE): If you would like extra time to acclimate to the campus and New London, please consider attending RISE, a three-day program for admitted students and their parents. RISE takes place immediately before Day One and is especially helpful for first generation college-bound students. Lodging and local transportation are provided.
  • International Cadet Orientation: Cadets sponsored by another nation will arrive a week early. Local host families provide a warm American welcome before you join RISE.

Completing Enrollment Forms

Please follow the guidance in your Cadet Handbook to submit all forms, by stated deadlines, to the appropriate Academy officials. Each form includes return instructions and you will submit some online and others by mail either using pre-paid return envelopes (enclosed in your acceptance package) or at your own expense.

You will submit some forms online and others by mail. Each form includes return instructions.

Background Check and Surveys

Once you return your fingerprint cards, you will receive an e-mail with instructions on how to submit your Electronic Questionnaire for Investigation Processing (eQIP) record. Completing this online form is a part of your mandatory federal background check.

The Academy conducts longitudinal research in order to understand our students, and how they develop. An Academy official will send instructions to these online surveys to you by email. For questions, please contact the Office of Institutional Research at (860) 701-6874.

  • Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP) Freshman Survey: A national longitudinal study.
  • Values in Action (VIA) and the Integrity Questionnaire: Joint longtitudinal studies conducted by the U.S. service academies.
  • Situational Action Survey (SAS): A Coast Guard study.
