Dr. Clarkson has recently joined the Civil Engineering faculty at the Coast Guard Academy after 24 years on the Civil and Environmental Engineering faculty at Oklahoma State University, the last eleven years at OSU’s campus in Tulsa. At OSU, Professor Clarkson taught courses in environmental engineering and advised 3 Ph.D. and over 50 M.S. graduates. Prior experience includes a faculty position at Clarkson University, Peace Corps service as water supply design engineer in the Public Works Department of the Government of Western Samoa, and consulting in civil and environmental engineering. He holds a B.S.E. degree in Civil Engineering from Duke University, a M.S. in Environmental Systems Engineering from Clemson University, and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering from Cornell University. Research interests include biological processes for wastewater treatment, bioremediation, and appropriate technology systems for water and wastewater needs in developing countries. He has contributed to over 30 research articles in journals and conference proceedings and is co-author of two books on land application and sludge management. Outside interests include working out, playing racquetball and tennis, attending concerts, visiting art museums, following the Red Sox, travelling and exploring new surroundings in New England, and the puzzle page in the newspaper. He currently resides in Waterford, Connecticut with his wife Gay and two long-haired dachshunds Petey and Willy.
