U.S. Coast Guard Academy Lieutenant Maisano earned a B.S. (with honors) in Marine Environmental Science from the Coast Guard Academy in 2004. Her first assignment after graduation was as Assistant Navigator, and later First Lieutenant, on USCGC Confidence (WMEC-619) in Port Canaveral, Florida. LT Maisano then transferred to USCGC Anacapa (WPB-1335) in Petersburg, Alaska, where she served as Executive Officer for two years before attending graduate school. LT Maisano earned her M.S. in chemistry from Tufts University in May 2010, and is now a chemistry instructor at USCGA. LT Maisano’s research at Tufts centered on development of the solid-state coated-wire reference electrode component of ion-selective electrode arrays for use in chemical analysis of extreme environments such as Death Valley, Antarctica, and Mars.
