CAPT Glenn Sulmasy is Chairman, Department of Humanities and Professor of Law. As Chair, he administers the government major and supervises nearly 40 faculty from myriad disciplines, including law, intelligence, history, public policy, international relations, English composition, literature, foreign language, and ethics/philosophy. His research interests include maritime security, law of the sea, as well the intersection between human rights and national security and he teaches upper level seminars in constitutional law, national security law as well as international law. He has been on the faculty of the U. S. Coast Guard Academy since July, 2001. He has also served on the faculty of the International Law Department at the U. S. Naval War College and has been an adjunct faculty member at the Roger Williams University School of Law since 1999. Captain Sulmasy publishes and lectures widely on the law of armed conflict, international law and national security matters. He is a Fellow in Homeland Security and National Security Law for the Center for National Policy in Washington D.C. He is widely published in the news media as well as law journals and is a sought after speaker on national security matters – both domestically and internationally. He is the author of The National Security Court System – A Natural Evolution of Justice in an Age of Terror (Oxford University Press) and Co-Editor of International Law Challenges – Homeland Security and Combating Terrorism (2005).
