LT Aaron Dahlen is a native of International Falls, Minnesota (“Icebox of the Nation”). He started his Coast Guard career in 1991 by surviving Coast Guard Boot Camp in Cape May New Jersey. His next 10 years were spent serving at various radionavigation stations including LORSTA Kodiak, LORSTA St. Paul, OMSTA North Dakota, and a stint teaching radionavigation systems at Coast Guard TRACEN Petaluma.

In 2004, then Chief Electronics Technician Dahlen was selected to attend the Coast Guard’s Advanced Computer, Engineering, and Technology (ACET) program. He subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology at the University of Minnesota, Mankato. Upon graduation he served the next three years on the heavy icebreakers CGC Polar Star and CGC Healy.

In 2007 Chief Dahlen received a commission to LTjg through the Coast Guard's Direct Commission Engineer program. He returned to work in radionavigation systems at the LORAN support unit in Wildwood New Jersey. Now LT Dahlen was selected to attend graduate school under the Coast Guard’s Communications, Computer, and Electrical Engineering (CCEE) program.
