CDR JOHN (ANDY) GOSHORN

CDR Andy Goshorn is a 2001 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. Upon graduation, he served as Engineer Officer in Training on board CGC Chase (WHEC 718) home-ported in San Diego.  

CDR Goshorn had the opportunity to earn a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and master’s in Business Administration from Drexel University, Philadelphia Pennsylvania in 2008. Upon completion of graduate school, CDR Goshorn reported to CGC Escanaba (WMEC 907) as Engineer Officer.  

CDR Goshorn has twice been stationed at Coast Guard Headquarters. In 2003, he led the Naval Engineering Environmental section analyzing new coating systems for Coast Guard use, ensuring adherence to new EPA engine emissions standards and examined the use of biofuels for Coast Guard assets. In 2011, he was assigned to the Deputy Commandant for Operations Budget office (DCO-82) where he worked to align the Coast Guard’s $1.5B capital investment strategy with operational resource needs.  

A mission support professional, CDR Goshorn is a qualified Incident Command System Type 3 event Logistics Section Chief. He has also served on the Deputy of Operational Logistics’ select Logistic Support Element, providing global mission support to Coast Guard units home and abroad. This included supporting the U.S. Navy’s 7th fleet with notional Coast Guard assets during the annual “Ulchi Freedom Guardian” exercise with the Republic of Korea. 

Most recently, CDR Goshorn completed a tour as the Regional Naval Engineer in the Coast Guard’s largest geographic district, the 14th District. He oversaw the depot level repair of 40+ year old high endurance cutters, supported routine upkeep of three seagoing buoy tenders and provided short-fuse maintenance support for patrol boats and response boats. He was a pillar in the local education community, organizing three years of underwater robotics competitions for over 300 students from 4th grade to high school, opening up STEM career paths and opportunities that were otherwise unknown. 

CDR Goshorn is married to the former Christine Weaver of Media, Pennsylvania who works as a project manager for industry. They have two boys, Jack and Henry, and enjoy the outdoors such as camping, backpacking, kayaking and hiking.
