Tall Ship Eagle
3/c Shannah Shelton

Two more days until we anchor off the coast of Boston. I can’t wait to walk on solid ground again. I love being underway but, eating, sleeping, walking, and working out at a 15-degree tilt can be challenging. Sundays are amazing aboard Eagle. We get to sleep in and relax for the day. It’s a nice break in the week, especially after all of the watch-standing and long days.

My Eagle experience so far has been pretty fun. There is definitely plenty of work to be done that keeps us busy, but all in all I have been learning a lot. Becoming helm and look-out qualified was such a great accomplishment. The permanent crew members really appreciate the fact that could we could stand watches by ourselves and they could have a little more free time. I also overcame my fear of climbing. I’ve learned that the more often you go aloft, the easier it gets. After a while you forget that your 140 feet above the deck of the ship, well, at least until you look down. I am definitely looking forward to Boston and the weeks ahead aboard Eagle.
