The Science Department consists of three sections and offers a major in Marine and Environmental Sciences:

• Chemistry
• Marine Science
• Physics

In both introductory and advanced courses, faculty and cadets are involved in a wide range of projects that deal with interesting and important environmental issues. Some examples are:

• studies of water masses in the North Atlantic
• coastal food chains using isotope measurements
• issues related to fisheries management
• estuarine dynamics
• toxicity of pepper sprays
• detection of petroleum compounds in sea water samples
• identification of materials from suspected arson sites
