Captain's Bio - Captain Eric Jones, USCG
Captain Jones reports to Eagle after serving for two years as the Deputy Chief, Office of Congressional and Government Affairs, at United States Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
His afloat assignments include: Deck Watch Officer and First Lieutenant aboard USCGC Venturous (WMEC 625) homeported in Long Beach, California; Commanding Officer and Plankowner of USCGC Tybee (WPB-1330) in San Diego, California; Navigator and Executive Officer of USCGC Eagle (WIX 327) in New London, Connecticut; and Executive Officer of USCGC Forward (WMEC 911) in Portsmouth, Virginia. Captain Jones most recently served afloat as the Commanding Officer of the 270-foot Medium Endurance Cutter Harriet Lane (WMEC 903), homeported in Portsmouth, Virginia.
His assignments ashore include: Mathematics and Leadership Instructor at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut; Workforce and Operations Reviewer, Division of Program Review, Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C.; and Deputy Chief, Office of Budget and Programs, and Chief, Division of Program Review, United States Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Captain Jones is a 1987 graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marine Engineering from the Coast Guard Academy, a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics and Fluid Dynamics from Brown University, and a Master of Business Administration from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan Fellows Program in Innovation and Global Leadership. He is also a graduate of the Naval War College Command and Staff Nonresident Seminar Program and a 2001-2002 Fellow of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Seminar XXI on Foreign Politics, International Relations, and the National Interest.
Captain Jones’ personal awards include four Meritorious Service Medals, four Coast Guard Commendation Medals, the Coast Guard Achievement Medal, the Commandant’s Letter of Commendation, and various service and unit awards.
