My name is Kathryn Peek and I was born and raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Despite my land-locked origin, I was drawn to the Coast Guard Academy because of the law enforcement career option. I have two younger siblings and I’m the first of my family to go into the Coast Guard.
I have always been an athlete, participating in swimming, track, cross-country, and a season of lacrosse in high school, and doing cross-country and both track seasons at the Academy. I also have always had an interest and been very involved in art, primarily water color, graphite, and the surrealist genre. Much of my inspiration for my creations is derived from my passion for heavy metal music, graphic novels (anything by Frank Miller), and first-person shooters. While at the Academy I have many of my art supplies properly stowed in my room :).
In high school, I, like several of my classmates, did the International Baccalaureate program. It was extremely helpful in preparing me for the Academy’s academic course load. I am a Marine and Environmental Science major at the Academy due to my love for the sciences, particularly biology. I love my country, and am proud to be a member of such a fine service.
