I'd like to make the main focus of this blog all about the basic life of a cadet. Each post will be on a different aspect of cadet life here and I'll try to put you in the shoes of a student here at the United States Coast Guard Academy. A little information about myself, I'm from Annapolis, Maryland, went to Broadneck High School, and I'm on the ice hockey team here. I also make lots of movies. (You can check some of them out at www.youtube.com/jamello29). As for academics, I spend the majority of my time studying by helping other people study. I've learned that If you can teach someone else the material you've just learned, it means that you've really understood it yourself.
I'd just like to say for any prospective cadets who are weighing whether a military life is for them or not, I strongly recommend you try the AIM summer program. Before AIM, I had absolutely zero interest in being in the military, even though my dad was in the Coast Guard, but AIM made me realize that the military side of things really isn't that bad so long as you don't sweat the small stuff. Well that's pretty much all I have to say. Read my blog entries, and if you have any questions please email me at James.C.Meyers@uscga.edu.
