My name is Alex Min. I come from the great state of Hawaii, where it is always sunny and warm. My passion is the ocean and all that has to do with it. I grew up on the water fishing. Coming from Hawaii to the Academy has not been an easy task, but I have made some great friends and look forward to a new challenge everyday.
Back in Hawaii, I paddled Outrigger canoes and kayaked for sports. At the Academy I was greatly influenced by my cadre and chose to play rugby this year. It is a great sport and very unique in all aspects of the game. I get a great workout and an outlet to all the stress that the daily rigors of the Academy generate. Being a part of the rugby has helped me build strong friendships and introduced me to people outside of my class.
One of the most helpful tips I received before coming to the Coast Guard Academy was from Vice Admiral Manson Brown, which was his motto, “Attitude determines altitude.” I have tried to live by this everyday, staying positive through any situation.
