ABOUT DYLAN

Hey! My name is Dylan Lorence, and I’m from Rocky Hill, Connecticut. That puts my home about an hour northwest of the Academy. I have one sister who decided to be a rocket scientist down in Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona.

I am part of the Class of 2020, which right now, makes me a 4/c. I will also be shooting on the NCAA Rifle Team, which has been a huge part of my life the past four years. Living in Connecticut while at the Academy means I know the lay of the land, which is really helpful when people ask where they can go dirt biking or ae looking for a good fishing spot (and I know a lot of good fishing spots). My family used to, and occasionally still does, work with charter fishing near the New London area, and I guess that’s where I found my drive to be a member of the Coast Guard. I was always on boats at a young age, and when my family finally bought our own boat, a lot of my free time was spent fixing it. From broken vacuum-flush toilets to the two 1500 horsepower MAN diesel engines, I know the inside and out of every inch of that boat. That definitely played a big part in which major I chose, too. I would love to help build boats that simply do not need as much maintenance.

Besides trying to fix broken things, I love to go hiking, fishing, snowboarding, boating (boats that are in good condition usually), and hang out with my friends. I would love to hear what all of you have to say about the Academy and learn about your backgrounds, too! Feel free to email me at Dylan.M.Lorence@uscga.edu.
