Hello there! My name is Patrick Ledzian and I grew up in Ocala, Florida. I always knew that I wanted to do something exciting with my life and when I entered high school I decided that I wanted to be an officer in the Navy. I wanted to go to the Naval Academy and I wanted to work on submarines. The Coast Guard Academy really blindsided me. I applied because I wanted to work at sea and the Coast Guard offered that, but I still had my intentions set on the Navy. It wasn’t until spring break 2013 when I received my appointment certificate to the Coast Guard Academy that I took a good look at the Coast Guard and its various missions. To say I was impressed with the Coast Guard would be an understatement. With appointments to both the UNSA and USCGA, I decided to go to the Coast Guard Academy.
Since I arrived at the Academy, I am continuously reminded of what a great choice I have made. The trainings I went to over the summer about the career options available, the leadership opportunities, and the wide variety of missions the Coast Guard executes reaffirmed my decision. The environment at the Academy is very energetic and friendly. The teachers I have this semester are excellent. I am an EE major and have weekly meetings with the EE staff and other EE majors. As for sports, I am a member of the cross country team.
