My name is Kelsey DePorto. I grew up in Frankfort Illinois (about 40 miles south of Chicago). I play volleyball at the Academy and I am a senior this year. I listen to all sorts of music and enjoy painting in my free time. I just started last year and it is a way for me to clear my mind.
My blog isn't for the ordinary perspective cadet. It is for the people out there who don't know if they have what it takes. My road to the Academy is different than most since it was the only college I applied to. I tore my ACL right before my senior year of high school, so I thought I was going to have to settle for community college. I didn't have a college fund, so volleyball was supposed to be my ticket. However, it had just tore and disintegrated with my ACL. In the rest of my blog I hope to inspire those who have self-doubt. I want to share my journey of loss and growth and hopefully someone will get the courage they need to at least apply to the Academy or to college in general.
I didn't believe I would even get accepted into the Academy or even make it through Freshman year, but I am a senior now and am about to become an officer in the Coast Guard. I was selected for an upper command position this semester and have a school record in volleyball. Ask me anything, whether you are looking for advice or encouragement, that is why I am here.
