Greetings to all who may read this blog,
My name is Drew Daniels, and I am currently a fourth class cadet here at the Academy. I come from East Haddam, Connecticut, a small town that I moved to several years ago. I learned about the Academy in 6th grade during a math team competition, and fell in love with the campus. Well, actually it was the only campus I had ever been to, so I thought that it was the best thing ever, especially compared to my school. Here I am seven years later, starting my first year in college, and I couldn’t be any happier.
My experience is a little bit different than most, as I had a huge obstacle to overcome to attain my appointment here. When I was 8 years old, I was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia, a bone marrow disorder that involves the immune system destroying the bone marrow. I was treated with chemotherapy, and have been fine ever since then. However, the Department of Defense doesn’t usually allow people who have had this condition into the military, and my medical exam led to a rejection by medical deferral. I was entered for a medical waiver, which I received, and ultimately allowed me to be here now. This has been my passion for almost as long as I can remember, and has been my goal for years.
