Hockessin, DE - Class of 2012
Major: Management

Hello, my name is Hunter C. Warren and I am a third-class cadet, or sophomore, from Hockessin, Delaware – not too far from Philadelphia. I am excited to be a member of the Cadet Journalist Program and to not only share with the world what life as a cadet is like, but to hopefully pique the interest of future applicants to Academy and U.S. Coast Guard – the small service with a big mission.

I was born and raised in Dover, Delaware and moved 50 miles north of Dover to Hockessin before my sophomore year of high school. In 2008, I graduated from the Charter School of Wilmington and was honored to serve in a number of leadership and community service oriented roles while in high school. As a senior, I was elected co-captain of the men’s swimming team and helped lead the team to a state runner-up title. In addition, I was elected Vice President and later President of my school’s Habitat for Humanity chapter during my junior and senior years, respectively. Lastly, I was inducted into the National Honor Society and became an AP Scholar with Honor recipient.

At the Academy, I am a Business Management major hoping to focus on leadership and organizational development. I am a member of the Color Guard, which presents the colors our nation, the five armed services, and the Corps of Cadets at each Regimental Review in the fall and spring as well as at special events and parades around New England. Additionally, I am a shooter on the Combat Arms Team, which competes against West Point, the Naval Academy, and the Air Force Academy using service-specific pistols, rifles, and shotguns. C.A.T. also teaches cadets the basics to becoming Boarding Officers after graduation or even specialists in maritime law enforcement and homeland security. My favorite pastimes at the Academy include eating (the food’s apparently the best of all the academies), sleeping (only on the weekends), and exercising in the newly renovated Billard fitness rooms.

Back home in Delaware, I spend most of my time with family including my parents, Greg and Susan, my younger brother, Spenser, and my yellow Labrador, Trooper. During the summer I can be found at my family’s beach house in Ocean City, Maryland doing a lot of different water-sports and I snowboard in the winter, mostly in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains. A few of my hobbies include swimming, exercising, reading non-fiction, and Corvettes (I’m a car guy). I hope you enjoy my entries as I try to describe cadet life to you as realistically as possible.
