Lieutenant Plummer earned a B.S. in Marine and Environmental Science from the Coast Guard Academy in 2008. Following graduation, he served as Navigation Officer, Supply Officer and Law Enforcement Officer aboard the USCGC Decisive (WMEC 629) in Pascagoula, Mississippi. In 2010, LT Plummer transferred to Sector Hampton Roads, Virginia, where he assumed the role of Supervisor of the Vessel Boarding and Security team, a specialized cadre of law enforcement personnel tasked with Ports, Waterways, and Coastal Security (PWCS) for the Chesapeake Bay. LT Plummer joined the faculty at the USCGA in 2014 after receiving both a M.S. in Chemistry and a M.S. in Oceanography from the University of Connecticut. He remains enrolled as a Ph.D. student at UCONN, where he studies marine chemistry. His research interests include the use of stable isotopes (15N, 13C) as a tracer for the magnitude of estuarine and coastal nitrogen cycling, and is presently working on novel methods for safer analysis of 15N isotopic ratios.
