Joy, Adventure, and Knowledge

Martorell Crespo Photo For my 2/c summer leave I had the opportunity to go to NYC, Washington D.C., and Poland to learn about the Holocaust. It was a really unique and amazing experience. I had the opportunity to also meet other cadets from the Naval Academy, United States Military Academy, and Air Force Academy. We all became good friends and were able to have discussions at the end of each day to share our experiences and thoughts about how the program was going.

In Poland, we went to the concentration camps of Auschwitz and Birkenau. It was an interesting experience, but sad at the same time. We were able to see the gas chambers, how the Jewish people slept, etc. We also had several opportunities to meet with Holocaust survivors and hear their stories. Listening to their stories, we were able to understand more about the Holocaust and know that there are still people out there who are always grateful for their life and who experienced such pain during the genocide.

Finally, we met and interacted with the General Assembly Counselor of The United States in Poland. It was such an awesome and fun experience! He was so nice and funny to talk to and hang out with. We all had dinner at his house and, during small reception, we met his family, people who served in the military, and some of his friends.

Overall, my summer leave was an amazing and an unforgettable experience full of joy, adventure, and knowledge!
