The International Debutante Ball is held in New York City every two years. This is usually the biggest out of all the United States debutante balls and also features women from other countries as well. A debutante ball, for those of you who don’t know, is viewed upon as an introduction to society and when society recognizes you as a woman. It is a very big deal and usually runs in the family. The Commandant of the Coast Guard, Admiral Papp, actually met his wife at the International Debutante. The event is currently held at the beautiful Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, which was the perfect spot for such a lovely event.
The debutantes looked stunning in their white dresses with their escorts wearing tuxedos. As a military escort, my role was to be the flag bearer for the ladies as they went onstage to be presented to the world. One of the most impressive sights was the lovely ladies from Texas doing their famous Texas Dips, which is unlike any other state or county’s introduction. The women from Texas would not simply courtesy, but rather bend so seemingly impossibly low that they could put their nose to the ground. It was quite a sight to see! There were so many great people and it was definitely the experience of a lifetime. I cannot wait for the next one. Just two more years to go! Hopefully I will see you there, too!
