Summer Assignments, 4c Formal and the 2015 Class Crest

(The Cadet Experience, Class of 2015) Permanent link   All Posts
Drew Ferraro Hello everyone, hopefully you’re having a great year, wherever you are.

Life here at the Academy, at least for me, is picking up right where it left off before Christmas Break. It seems like everyone around here is getting excited for summer training, and I can’t say I’m not one of them. I put in for Alaska this summer, and for an 11 week cutter for 3/c summer; we’ll see if I get it. I’ve always had dreams of going on some adventure, which is probably why I came here, and I want to continue that, so Alaska seems like the right place for me to be. If I don’t get it, though, there are no bad jobs in the Coast Guard, so wherever I go, I know I’ll have an amazing summer in a place I never would’ve gotten to go before.

For me personally, I’ve been working to get the 4/c Formal planned and ready. In my role as President, this means picking and supervising who’s going to be in charge of it, and all the departments underneath. There’s TONS of work to be done, and I was the kind of guy in high school who wouldn’t been caught dead planning a dance, so this is new to me. Luckily, I have great people working with me showing me what needs to get done. Whenever you don’t know how to do something, it’s a sure bet someone in your class does! I have so much to do, from making the guest list, to briefing the Admiral and Command Staff, to making sure all the proper etiquette and protocol is followed. It’s a pretty big ordeal, but it’s a welcome relief from the pressures of academics, which are thankfully much lighter for me this semester! We also built our class crest, with the help of a committee. By the time any of you who read this visit the Academy, it’ll probably be hanging up on the wall in Leamy Hall, the proud crest of 2015. Can’t wait to unveil it, hopefully my class likes it as much as the people who designed it.

Lots of people have been emailing me, and I’m enjoying answering every question I can! Please continue to email me if you want to know anything! (Especially if you’re from CA!)

Sincerely,
Drew
