Having Freedom...Kind Of

Wow, what whirlwind these past few months have been. It seems like yesterday I was running off the bus at the beginning of Swab Summer getting ready to start a new and difficult adventure. It has definitely been a challenge, often times pushing me to the brink of my sanity with all of the different tasks to complete between academics, sports, and fourth class duties. But there is one thing to keep in mind, it all ends; the sun will come up tomorrow. You get done what you have to get done and move on to the next task. I can’t lie, it’s hard. But there is always something you can count on here that I love about the Academy, your friends. Your friends will get you through this place; they make it worth staying.
The transition from Swab Summer to the school year has been pretty radical. Swabs go from being told what to do and when to do it, to having freedom….kind of. As 4/c we are kind of thrown into the fire to figure out how to manage our time effectively. Luckily for me I went to prep school, so that taught me a great deal about this highly valued skill. Being able to balance all of the homework after a full day of classes and football practice is very important. But with that being said, you still need to have time to yourself. Just to kick back and hang out with your friends.
All in all, through all of the Academy’s difficulties and challenges, I can honestly say that I am happy here. The friends I have made and the adventures I have been on are things I could never do at any other college. You just have to stay positive, and get through each week.
