All the recent Halloween festivities mark the end of October, making my time at the Coast Guard now an entire four months. It is amazing to me that it has been a long four months, yet also just a short four months. Sometimes I even manage to forget that my college experience is so different from what I would find at a civilian school.
But, then we will have a speech one night on patrol boats or one of my teachers will get sidetracked in class and tell us a story from when they were underway on one of their cutters, and it reminds me of all the opportunities I have in front of me.
I have absolutely no clue what I want to do in four years, but then again, I’m only four months in and it still feels like I have all the time in the world to decide. And even when I do decide, I’ll be able to do so many different things during my time as an officer. The possibilities here are endless.
