It is Completely Unique!

One of the most interesting aspects of cadet life is having the opportunity to describe my experiences with others. I recently went to a swim meet with students from NYU, and many of the students approached me with many questions about the Academy, ranging from the coursework here, to opportunities in the Coast Guard. The students stared in awe as I described that cadets wake up at 6 a.m., that all 1,000 cadets eat lunch together, among many other aspects of our lives. I soon realized just how unique my experiences here are. It is so easy to see many aspects of life as commonplace, such as the vast career opportunities in the Coast Guard, when they truly are outstanding.
Next week, I will be going on recruiting leave, where I will be able to talk to prospective students about life at the Academy. I am so excited to have yet another opportunity to describe my unique life to others and encourage them to decide to have the same experience. Although it definitely has its challenges, attending the Academy is certainly a one-of-a-kind experience. ERE
