Being a cadet at the Academy is definitely an adventure. In just a few months since R-Day, the Coast Guard Academy has taken me from Portland, Maine to Rockland, Maine on Eagle, New York City, the Naval Academy, Kings Point, New York, West Springfield, Massachusetts, and Montreal, Canada; all places I never would have gotten to go if I had chosen another college. There are constantly things going on here and whether you are into sports or musicals, there is something here that you will enjoy. I play French horn in the Regimental Band and I also play mellophone for the Windjammers drum and bugle corps, the main reason why I was able to travel to so many places.
Life as a cadet does come with its challenges…not being able to look at your food when you eat during fourth class year can get messy : ) but the friends you make here and the relationships you build are great. 4/c year is not always fun but there are 250 other people going through the exact same thing that you are, and all of the upperclass did too, so after awhile you learn to laugh at some of the crazy things that you have to do. Everyone here wants you to succeed and is willing to help you out whenever you need it.
