Downtown New London is an intermodal transportation hub, the only one in New England. Trains, buses, taxis, and ferries all converge here. The Academy is only 2.5 miles north of the transportation center, and less than a mile from Route 95, the interstate corridor. As a result, you can travel by plane, train, ferry, and car with relative ease. A taxi to or from the transportation center costs about $10.
If traveling by car, take exit 83 off Route 95 to get to the main gate.
Please have valid photo identification available for all adults upon approaching the security gate. Any vehicle, and its occupants, entering the United States Coast Guard Academy are subject to random security searches by uniformed security officers. As a military facility, the Coast Guard Academy complies with the REAL ID Act, a federal law passed in 2005 to set standards for authenticating personal identification. Accordingly, the Coast Guard Academy is currently unable to grant access to the campus based only on the presentation of state driver’s licenses issued by Minnesota, Washington, Missouri, Maine, and Montana. Residents of these states should plan to present an alternate, compliant form of ID, such as a passport, military ID, TWIC card, or permanent resident card.
If you have questions about the REAL ID Act, please visit https://www.dhs.gov/real-id-enforcement-brief.

Green to the Providence Amtrak station.
