Hello! My name is ENS Omar Castillo and I am an Admissions Officer at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. I serve the western states of California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, and Arizona. I also serve Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Thank you for your interest in learning more about the many opportunities the world’s premier maritime service academy has to offer.
I have been a member of the Coast Guard for 11 years, originally enlisting in 1997. I am a prior Machinery Technician (MK) and Maritime Enforcement Specialist (ME) where I had the opportunity to participate in hundreds of Coast Guard missions; most notably during my assignment on the Coast Guard Cutter Farallon, a patrol boat based in Miami Beach, Florida. While assigned to the CGC Farallon, I participated in dozens of missions to include search and rescue, counter drug operations, and human smuggling operations.
I attended Reserve Officer Candidate School (ROCI) in 2012 and began my commissioned officer career as an Ensign at Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach in Southern California. While there I have been involved in Environmental Protection and Pollution Response with the Incident Management Division. I hold a B.A. in Criminal Justice and live in San Diego, California. In the civilian world I am a Deputy United States Marshal, assigned to the San Diego Fugitive Task Force.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about the Academy, the application process, career opportunities in the Coast Guard or any other questions you may have. Best of luck and I look forward to hearing from you!
