"Chocolate: Is it Really Good For You?"
Abstract: Before we can answer the question posed by the title, we need to learn more about chocolate so that we can make an informed decision. We will briefly examine the history of chocolate and its uses, the cocoa tree, how chocolate is made, and some of the chemistry of chocolate and the antioxidants that are its most important components. We will learn how a chemist/scientist goes about the task of examining chocolate and health. Our focus will be on heart disease and the brain and we will end with a look at the myths associated with chocolate.
