"Safety Engineering Management"
Abstract: Every engineer is currently facing daily challenges and diverse issues, which depends on the setting and scope of their business, the maturity and complexity of their technology, and the degree of regulatory oversight in their industry. This presentation will provide an overview of current best practices in safety engineering and will discuss various techniques of safety risk mitigation from a qualitative perspective.
Biography: Dr. Bui (Ph.D., M.B.A., P.E.) is a registered professional engineer and a certified NARTE product safety engineer with 31 years of progressively responsible technical and management experiences in areas of electrical design, component application, system reliability, maintainability and safety management disciplines in the aerospace industry. He currently serves ASME Safety Engineering and Risk Analysis Division (SERAD) as a senior advisor, and functions as the Engineering and Technology Management (E and TM) Group's representative and Chair to the Committee on Strategic Planning. He has also taught graduate school at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and various engineering disciplines at the University of Hartford.
Dr. Bui involves himself with many corporation initiatives and has represented his business at the United Technologies Company (UTC) Advanced Studies Advisory Council. He is a Gold certified ITO professor at the UTC ITO University where he teaches relentless root cause analysis and mistake proofing as part of the UTC corporate quality initiative. He had been selected to attend UTC Emerging Leader Assessment program and also had served on the Hamilton Sundstrand Management Club in various positions from club Treasurer, first Vice-President, and to President (1999). Dr. Bui is a member of the 360 Federal Credit Union Board of Directors and is currently Chief of Product Safety and Reliability for Hamilton Sundstrand Space System International, a division of United Technologies Company. Dr. Bui holds a Ph.D. in Organization and Management, M.B.A., M.S. in Computer Engineering, MS in Electrical Engineering, and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. Dr. Bui enjoys practicing martial arts and is a second degree Black Belt; he serves as Chief Instructor at the Trinity College Karate Club in Hartford, Connecticut.
