The Academy’s Civil Engineering program provides a solid background in mathematics and basic sciences applied toward the study and design of engineered systems. As a broad field encompassing many disciplines, Civil Engineering offers a challenging and fulfilling career to individuals with a wide variety of interests.
As an Civil Engineering major at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, you will study structural analysis, geotechnical engineering, construction, water resources, and environmental engineering. The program emphasizes development of open-ended problem solving, team building skills, creativity, and communication ability.
By the time you graduate, you will have gained the skills and concepts needed to succeed as a Coast Guard project engineer and project manager. Each cadet participates in a hands-on capstone design project working as a student engineer in a small project team confronted with real-world engineering problems that require formal resolution with no predetermined outcome.
