Born and raised in the town of Seward, Alaska, LCDR Adler earned a Bachelor of Science in Government from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and earned a commission in 1999. At the Academy, she played on the women’s basketball and volleyball teams. Following graduation, she served aboard the USCGC Mariposa in Seattle and USCGC Kukui in Honolulu as a Deck Watch Officer and Maritime Law Enforcement Officer. She was then selected for the Coast Guard’s funded legal education program and studied at the University of California, Hastings College of Law. During law school, LCDR Adler represented UC - Hastings at the National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition in White Plains, New York, advancing to the semi-final rounds and she studied as a visiting scholar at the University of San Francisco Law School for one year. During the summer periods, she interned at the Coast Guard’s 14th District legal office in Honolulu, Hawaii and the Pacific Area JAG Office in Alameda, California. After earning her Juris Doctor, LCDR Adler passed the Washington state bar examination, completed Naval Justice School, and reported to the Coast Guard’s Maintenance and Logistics Command, Pacific. There, she served in the Operational Law Branch, as Aide to the Commander, and as a military prosecutor in the Military Justice Branch as well as at USMC Base Camp Pendleton (4 months). She reported to the Academy in 2012 after serving as Commanding Officer, USCG Training Team West in Alameda, California. LCDR Adler resides in Waterford with her husband, CDR Stephen Adler, who serves as the Academy’s Staff Judge Advocate.
